Mary Gray is a lawyer, mathematician and statistician who has worked her entire career to promote equity, diversity and fair treatment by all under the law. Amongst her many achievements, she is the founder of the Association for Women in Mathematics and an advocate for women in mathematics. Her advocacy has had a positive impact on the recruitment, retention and pay equity for women in math. In this talk, I will recount some of her notable accomplishments as well as the effects of the fledgling AWM in the 1970’s. On a personal note, I’ll explain how Dr. Gray’s mentorship had a positive effect on me, and discuss mentorship opportunities for women in math. |
