Abstract
Maxar’s Open Data Program provides satellite imagery, building footprints and weather data in response to sudden onset major crisis events around the world. These data sets are provided free in order to help first responders better plan disaster response and help nonprofits and non-governmental organizations assess impact to local communities. Natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and wildfires have widespread and devastating impacts to communities and satellite imagery is a powerful tool which allows this impact to be measured and analyzed. This talk will focus on how satellite imagery and the data derived from it can help both to prepare and respond to natural disasters and specifically focus on Maxar’s Open Data program.
