Abstract
This video explains how to construct the crystal structure of the kaolinite-serpentine group (the 1:1 phyllosilicates) using TotBlocks, a series of 3D-printed building blocks. The kaolinite-serpentine group structures consists of infinite sheets of T-O modules as seen in lizardite, one of the three serpentine polymorphs. The unique T-O configuration of these minerals leads to structural deformations in their modules and the development of these polymorphs.
