Abstract
This video explains how to construct the crystal structure of the amphibole supergroup using TotBlocks, a series of 3D-printed building blocks. The amphibole supergroup structure consists of double-chain-width modules connected by pyribole-type linkages. This crystal structure leads to an elongate, fibrous to acicular, or asbestiform habit within the supergroup. As a result of their modular crystal structures, the dominant cleavage angles of amphiboles, pyroxenes, and micas allow for these mineral groups to be distinguished from each other in hand specimen.
