Abstract
Web applications are constantly getting more and more advanced, and with browser features like Application Cache and Local Storage the distinction between web applications and desktop applications is slowly disappearing. Despite being able to do a lot more inside the browser than we used to, there are still reasons to create applications outside of the browser. Either for marketing purposes, providing a branded downloadable application that can be started directly from the OS application launcher, or for accessing operating system functionality that is normally unavailable in the browser for security reasons.
