Abstract
At the start of the Covid-19 lockdown in Germany, we started a video podcast. Our driving question: Everyone in education is currently transitioning to online because of Covid-19. They have entered the space, have managed first quick-and-dirty implementations, but they are looking for what this might all bring in the future. With our serious we want to answer the question: Why should we make all this effort with online learning, if it is only temporary? In the 17 episodes we talked to 17 guests from around the world about what a borderless university might be like, the importance of community-led initiatives, open education, digital skills, hackathons and how to recognise all of this through alternative credentials. We also talked about the challenges confronting online learning, visualising knowledge for digitally-based course and how to create communities. In our session, we would like to reflect on the series with one of our first guests: Khalid O. Hassan, a Sudanese student studying in Bologna University and the Technical University Munich. We want to uncover the truth about the value of online learning done well - and how obtainable this goal really is.
