Hello everybody. This is going to be the first lightning talk today, not a long talk. Just a few thoughts about OnCloud in my first year at OnCloud.
I'll tell a little bit about myself, my history. I grew up in the US and in Germany, in Germany mostly in Cologne. Then I studied politics in Erlang and later at Free University in Berlin. After that I was an event manager for more than nine years.
I did a lot of jobs for Adidas, for FIFA, for UEFA. You would find me at champion league finals for the last six years, I think.
So I'm running around organizing stuff. Then my wife came back from Istanbul. She lived two years in Istanbul. I lived more or less on the road. Usually I'd be out of home for more than nine months a year. My wife said, okay, two years Istanbul is enough.
I would actually want to do something like family stuff, whatever. Last year I got married, first of May. I actually started at OnCloud on the third of May last year.
I asked my long time good friend and former American football buddy Felix. We used to play American football together. I asked him, I'm too much on the road. I need something a little bit more relaxing, whatever.
Felix also had a web agency and I did an internship there. I started my first steps in programming. So, Lamstack, Angular, stuff like that. It was interesting. I really enjoyed it and I really enjoyed the spirit around this.
Later on I asked him and he said, yeah, come to OnCloud. We need a new trainee. I got a trainee last year and with the fork I'm all of a sudden the community manager.
Stuff happens and it's really good. Let me tell you what I thought it would be at OnCloud. This is a little bit what I expected. Just nerds and stuff. What I really learned is that the people at OnCloud are really great.
It's a super inspiring team to work with. I have never worked in such a motivated team. Even after the fork people are more focused, more motivated to get stuff done. I'm really proud to be part of this team.
I do a lot of stuff for OnCloud. I did some stuff. What did I learn? First of all, I had to set up in OnCloud. This is not easy for an event manager. Although it's pretty easy.
I learned a lot about infrastructure, Linux, SpaceX admin stuff. I was very soon able to help out as a technical sales assistant at sales meetings and stuff. Suit and tied up. Good fun.
Then I did a lot of community management. Went to a lot of conferences. Carlos just went with me a couple of weeks ago to Froscon in Bonn. He's awesome. This guy is awesome. If you have a problem with OnCloud, ask Carlos. He will fix it. He did an amazing job helping me out there at the front.
I'm still learning. I'm still a trainee. After this conference is done, more or less in two weeks, I will get back to learn programming that I can say next year. Maybe not basic programming, but I can actually do some stuff on the core or on the client.
We will see. I think that's it so far. In any case, reach out to me. You will find me on GitHub as at Kavol on Twitter.
Jonathan Kavol and mail John at OnCloud.com. My strength is usually bringing people together who could have the same interests. Or, you know, this guy wants feature X implemented and I know somebody who could have the knowledge to actually help and work together.
So don't be afraid to reach out and do that at any time. Yes, this was my lightning talk, short talk. It's a lightning talk. If anybody has questions, feel free to ask and that's it.
Otherwise, one more thing. Pizza should be there very soon. Pizza is there? All right. Any questions? Then let's have pizza and enjoy. Oh, there's one question.
Yes, the hacking rooms are open during lunchtime on fifth floor. All right. Then everybody enjoy a meal and see you at 1.30 for the next lightning talks. Thank you very much.
