Abstract
When snow is blown by the wind, it self-organizes into ripples, dunes, and anvil-shaped sastrugi. This video showcases the movement of self-organized snow features on Niwot Ridge in the Colorado Front Range. It was designed to complement the submission of "The evolution of snow bedforms in the Colorado Front Range" to The Cryosphere. These include close-packed snow dunes (0:09), barchan snow dunes (0:39, 0:56, 1:08), snow ripples (1:34, 2:05, 2:23), sastrugi (2:51, 3:06), snow-steps (3:33, 3:57) and snow-waves (4:20, 4:44).
