| English | English The chief procedures in the threshing and winnowing of grains as they may be regarded as typical for the traditional (non-mechanized) agriculture of the Anatolian high plateau form the content of this film: Wheat is transported on a traditional two-wheeled ox-cart pulled by a pair of water buffaloes from the fields to the threshing-floor, where it is spread out in a round "bed" and consequently threshed and turned into chaff (during two days) by three yokes of oxen and buffaloes pulling threshing-sledges with sharp flints on their under-sides. After threshing, the material is piled in high mounds and winnowed several times in the wind with the aid of broad forks. Finally the grains are cleaned with sieves, packed into sacks and taken to the house. |
