The film demonstrates the unusual manner of pollination within the protandrous blossom of Impatiens glandulifera, a red flowering Touch-me-not. At first the structure of the flower and of its peculiar sort of gynostegium, the unit gynaeceum and anroeceum, and the floral stages of the single flower are explained by quick motion pictures. After the rhythmical emptying of the pollen grains out of the anthers the totality of the stamens is separated from the base of the gynostegium. By this the ripening stigma becomes free for pollination. In the following the function of this construction, which guarantees xenogamic pollination, is demonstrated by normal motion outdoor pictures. In close-up pictures is to be seen, how the pollination takes place by bumble-bees which are well accomodated relative to their tallness.
