Nach vorbereitenden Opfern in dem Andachtsraum wirft ein junger Mann zwei Orakelhölzer, die dem Orakel erst ein positives (wie hier), negatives oder neutrales Vorzeichen verleihen. Dann wirft er aus einem zylindrischen Bambusbehälter ein beziffertes Bambusstäbchen heraus. Ein auf die Orakelinterpretation spezialisierter Mönch liest aus dem Losbüchlein den Text vor, der für das entsprechende Orakelstäbchen bestimmt ist.

The film shows a method of divination by drawing a lot in form of a numbered bamboo stick, shaken out of a cylindrical bamboo container filled with many similar sticks. In order to give a positive, negative, or neutral value to this oracle, the two halves of a split bamboo sprout-the "oracle chips" - are thrown like dice, their respective position specifying the oracle's answer. The final details of the answer can be read from a special interpretation booklet.
