| English | English The film shows the optical high-lights of a harvest and fertility ritual taking place in the first month of the Balinese calendrical year. These are: 1-3: Dance in honour of the deities, libation of palm wine, and shield dance, all by the unmarried village boys. 4-6: Dance in honour of the deities, libation of palm wine, and shield dance, all by a specific category of married male villagers. 7: Dance of offering to the gods by the unmarried village girls. 8: Offering of gifts to the village deities. These ritual actions all are carried out within the central village temple. Scenes 1, 3, 4, and 6 are accompanied by a sacred orchestra consisting of iron metallophones, scenes 7 and 8 by an orchestra with bronze instruments. |
