The film showed the early development of the cricket (Acheta domestica). An overall view presented the superficial cleavage, which was typical for insects, the formation of the germ-disc, that was achieved by movements in the yolk, and the involution of the germband (blastokinesis) into the yolk. A detailed analysis was given of the following processes: fertilization, synchronous cleavage, and mitosis. The segration of a homogeneous blastoderm into a germ-disc and an extraembryonic cell layer was studied through the movements of cytoplasmic structures of the egg that were revealed by high magnification and time-lapse technique.
