Abstract
ARC representatives explain the recent changes to the funding rule as they pertain to data and data management. Followed by answering questions (listed below) from the audience. 14:15 Do you want to see a data management plan or the evidence of a data management plan? 16:48 What happens to the data management section in the assessment lifecycle? 21:25 Funding rules changes -- how does this work? What are the ramifications? 24:40 What sort of weighting does the data management information have? 25:09 Will you be giving assessors any instructions re data management in the "assessor's pack"? 27:15 The ARC in 2013 mandated publications being deposited in a repository, why didn't you mandate that data be deposited in the same (or similar) repositories? 30:11 What exactly do the panel mean by 'making data more accessible'? Is it actual access or through dissemination or.... 31:39 What about confidentiality and such issues? 32:27 It seems like they are using "data management" as if it means data dissemination. Can we get their definition of "data management"? 33:23 Is it appropriate to add any data management related costs (storage, curation, etc) to the project budget? 35:10 If you fail to follow your data management plan (and therefore are in breach of your ARC award), what happens? 37:30 Will the new assessors' handbook be released prior to DP/DECRA submissions closing? 38:09 Thank you for the discussion. The Funding Rules A10.3.2 say "The Final Report must address compliance with the ARC Open Access Policy as detailed at A11.5". A11.5 covers compliance with the Open Access Policy (11.5.1) and the obligation relating to research data and data management (11.5.2). Are we thinking that reporting specifically against Management of Data could form part of the Final Report in future? 39:18 How do you recommend that historians working from archival sources (already curated in libraries and other collections) put under data management? 41:48 Will curated data collections be counted as scholarly output for ARC and ERA purposes? 42:41 Would the ARC want to have some statement of verification about availability for reuse from data custodians, where data is not generated, but reused by researchers (in the context of historians using digital archives)?
