Connections in Geometric Numerical Integration and Structure-Preserving Discretization (17w5152)

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Connections in Geometric Numerical Integration and Structure-Preserving Discretization" workshop from June 11th to June 16th, 2017. In recent years, geometric numerical integration and structure-preserving discretization have emerged to be an important central theme in designing numerical methods for ordinary and partial differential equations. Historically, these two fields of computational mathematics have evolved relatively independently at preserving key underlying structures of differential equations. With the two fields maturing rapidly, it is in our view that this is an opportune and pivotal time to bring together experts from these two groups in order to make connections in recent developments. The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disc iplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineeri ng Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
