Geometric Tomography (20w5037)

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Geometric Tomography" workshop in Banff from February 9 to February 14, 2020. Geometric tomography is the area of Mathematics dealing with the retrieval of information about convex bodies (or other objects) based on lower dimensional data, such as the size of sections or projections. The area lies at the intersection of several branches of mathematics: functional analysis, harmonic analysis, convex geometry, differential geometry, integral geometry etc. Apart from purely theoretical aspects, geometric tomography finds real-world applications in science and engineering. One of the most well-known applications is computerized tomography, which allows to generate images from X-rays of human patients. The aim of the proposed meeting is to discuss most recent developments in geometric tomography, as well as closely related areas of convex geometry and geometric functional analysis.
