Abstract
This talk explores how Wikibase functions as a Semantic Knowledge Base within GLAM and computational archaeology, embedded in a broader interdisciplinary knowledge ecosystem. Three illustrative clusters are presented: (a) Community‑based Wikibase Instances – using community-driven platforms such as Wikidata, FactGrid, and Semantic Kompakkt to engage Citizen Scientists through federated queries. We will share a case study involving Irish Ogham inscriptions and Irish Holy Wells, enriched with SfM 3D models. (b) Research‑focused instances on wikibase.cloud – demonstrating the modelling of uncertainty using the fuzzy‑sl Wikibase, and the integration of 3D object Wikibases, e.g. via SquirrelBase. (c) Community‑driven reference hubs for FAIRification tools and software catalogues – showcasing the implementation of FAIRification tools like re3dragon (the “dragon lair”) and upcoming software registries such as chublets.software – based on open‑archaeo – contributing to NFDI4Objects and the NFDI software ecosystem via nfdi.software. Together, these examples illustrate how Wikibase supports interoperability, citizen science, and the FAIR (and FAIR4RS) principles, forming a sustainable ecosystem of knowledge bases across domains. The talk will share insights on data modelling, tool integration, federated access, and sustainability challenges of interdisciplinary infrastructures.
