Abstract
The Lucernal Microscope was initially developed by George Adams sen. (c. 1709–1773), however, particularly his son George Adams jun. (1750–1795) was very successful in establishing an improved version on the market. The instrument is a projection microscope that was popular at the end of the 18th and at the beginning of the 19th century, several science museums still have such an instrument in their collection. In February 2025, Trienke van der Spek and Peter Heering started working on the lucernal microscope from the collection at Teylers Museum Haarlem. In doing so, we used a (modern) Argand lamp and sliders from the late 18th century. These three videos show the first efforts in creating images of opaque objects with the instrument.
