The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is a United Nations peacekeeping mission for South Sudan, which became independent on 9 July 2011. UNMISS was established on 8 July 2011 by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1996 (2011) and as of March 2021, it is composed of 19,075 total deployed personnel including 14,222 troops; 217 experts on mission; 1,446 police personnel; 2,228 civilians; 387 staff officers and 388 UN Volunteers, where, it is headquartered in the South Sudanese capital of Juba. Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, UNMISS is therefore authorized to use all necessary means to implement its mandate which includes: (a) Protection of civilians (b) Creating conditions conducive to the delivery of humanitarian assistance (c) Supporting the Implementation of the Revitalized Agreement and the Peace Process (d) Monitoring, investigating, and reporting on violations of humanitarian and human rights law The mission has decided to extend its public outreach activities in a different method by utilizing geospatial information and using open geospatial tools and data for showcasing some of its important activities in support of above-mentioned mandates, and for this purpose contracted a service provider through bidding exercise and procurement protocols.
