Abstract
One of the most promising future generation candidates for safe, low-cost and long-lasting high energy density rechargeable energy storage systems is the Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) battery utilizing sulfur as active material. Sulfur offers the highest theoretical capacity of all known solid-state cathode materials (1672 Ah kg-1) and is, furthermore, widely abundant in nature, inexpensive as well as environmentally friendly. The wide-range application of Li-S batteries as mobile power supply is highly attractive. This video discusses new materials development, production technologies, the potential but also the challenges of the development of stable, high energy Lithium-Sulfur Batteries. Furthermore, the important process steps for the production of these batteries are demonstrated.
