Abstract
Improving and implementing photoswitches into organic transistors to compute at the speed of light. In this video clip, Stefan Hecht uses the historical setting of Berlin’s Museum of Technology to motivate his research on photoswitchable molecules that act as optically addressable gates in transistor and other devices. He then takes you to the lab, where graduate student Martin Herder explains to you how he prepares and characterizes new molecules with enhanced photoswitching performance. With these molecules in hand and in collaboration with the group of Prof. Paolo Samori in Strasbourg they were able to demonstrate the first prototype photoaddressable transistors. This research open up ample opportunities in optoelectronics as well as sensing applications.
