Analyzing, understanding, and communicating the complex causes, mechanisms and extent of past, current and future environmental change and its impacts on sustainability from a scientific as well as a societal perspective are the goals of the Competence Center Environment and Sustainability (CCES) of the ETH Domain. Since its initiation in 2006, these goals have been pursued within the scope of 25 large interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research collaborations in the following five thematic areas: Food, Environment and Health Climate and Environmental Change Sustainable Land Use Natural Resources Natural Hazards and Risks Exchange between scientists and stakeholders from politics, administration, and civil society constitutes an important element on the path towards a more sustainable development. Therefore, CCES has implemented a number of initiatives to foster this dialogue as well as the dissemination and adoption of sustainability know-how outside the scientific community. The CCES 2014 Conference “Research, Education, and Dialogue for Environment and Sustainability – Achievements and Challenges” will provide the platform for the presentation and discussion of CCES research highlights and dialogue activities of the second phase, covering the past three years. More in-depth insights into research findings and dialogue activities will be provided in poster presentations. An apéro riche will give the opportunity for networking.
