Anhand von historischen Stuckmarmorarbeiten in der Kartause Mauerbach in Niederösterreich werden verschiedene Aufgaben bei der Erhaltung und Restaurierung von Stuckmarmor gezeigt. Der Stukkateur, Alois Jarosch, führt die einzelnen Arbeitsvorgänge wie Reinigen, Entfernen von Anstrichen, Ergänzung von Fehlstellen, die Hinterfüllung und letztlich die Neuherstellung vor allem mit seinen Händen und speziellen Werkzeugen vor. The stuccoist demonstrates the different phases like cleaning, removal of later layers of paint, addition of missing parts, refil of cavities under the surface and at least the remake of stucco marble with much detail given to the handwork and the tools in the various phases and stages of production.

The different tasks and problems rising when conserving and restoring stucco marble are shown by the example of recent restorations of stucco marble decorations in the historic carthusian monastery of Mauerbach. Since all measures concerning conservation and restauration are based upon the knowledge of how this craft was accomplished there is ample space dedicated to this topic.
