Im Gartenland des Dorfes Malingdam/Imarin erzeugt ein Mann namens Uwok durch Sägen mit einem Rotan-Strang auf einem Holzstück Feuer. Er hält das Holzstück, das auf leicht brennbarem Material liegt, mit den Füßen fest. In zwei Einstellungen wird der Vorgang auch in Zeitdehnung (64 B/s) gezeigt.

In his garden on a low plain below the settlements Uwok, a leading man in Malingdam, makes fire. He presses a split stick with the feet to the ground, passes a rotan string underneath and "saws" until glowing sawdust is dropping on the "tinder" (dried leaves) placed below. After several vain attempts (breaking of the rotan string) Uwok finally succeeds in producing a blaze.
