At Spergau, a village near Halle/Saale, the bachelors perform an annual gift collection on Candlemas day (Feb. 2nd) whose preparation starts months before. This custom plays an important role not only for the organizers but for the whole village. The film documents the Candlemass of 1996, shows the most important figures and interviews the actors. Additionally, the film offers short sequences of historical footage by Hans Hahne from the 1920s.
