Zwei Stäbe aus verschiedenen Holzarten werden über Nacht in einen Termitenhügel gesteckt. Je nachdem, welcher der beiden Stäbe stärker angefressen wurde, ist das Orakel positiv oder negativ. Während der gesamten Handlung werden in Form eines Zwiegesprächs mit den Termiten Orakelsprüche formuliert.

Among the Azande termites are not only appreciated food, but they also play a large role in the suprasensitive conceptions of this group. To carry out the termite-oracle, two different sticks are placed in a termite-hill overnight; the oracle depends on which of the two is eaten, alone or chiefly, by the termites. During the whole procedure the consultant addresses the termites in the form of a dialogue. Among the methods of divination of the Azande the termite-oracle occupies a middle position, its efficacy is not so great as that of the poison-oracle.
