Mit einem Stöckchen schlägt der Spieler die Bogensaite des Musikbogens vor dem Mund an, während er mit einem zweiten Stöckchen die Länge des schwingenden Teils der Saite verändert und so zwei verschiedene Grundtöne hervorruft. Die Tonfolgen beinhalten Sätze der Baule-Sprache, zumeist Sprichwörter.

The Baule, relatives of the Ashanti of Ghana, play the musical bow as many other African tribes do. The string of the bow is struck with one small stick in front of the mouth of the player while with a second small stick the length of the string is changed in order to create two different key notes.
