Bei den Azande wird traditionell Salz aus der Asche von Pflanzen gewonnen. Die Pflanzen werden geschnitten und zum Trocknen ausgelegt. Sie werden zusammen mit Palmblattrippen und später auch mit Frucht- und Blütenstand einer Ölpalme im Holzfeuer verbrannt. Ein Filtriertrichter wird gebaut, die abgekühlte Asche in den Filter gegeben und mit Wasser beschüttet. Während Stunden tropft salzhaltiges Wasser ab. Es wird anschließend verdampft, und der so entstehende Brei wird in der Sonne getrocknet.

Among the Azande, salt is traditionally obtained from plant ashes. The plants are cut and laid out to dry. They are later burned with palm leaf ribs and later also with infruchtescence and inflorescence of an oil palm in a wood fire. A filter funnel is constructed; the cooled ashes are put into the filter, and water is poured over it. The salty water drips through for hours. Subsequently it is evaporated, and the paste produced is dried in the sun.
