On a Guano island the feeding of sparsely feathered young is observed among pelicans. The young push their heads into the throat of the parent as far as the lower neck. They are fed with pre-digested nourishment. The difference in sizes of the young birds is so great that the smallest receive no nourishment since the are unable to reach the parent's beak due to weakness.
