[gmd_2023_rev] Ferry case study

Optimal routes generated using the VISIR-2 model for a ferry journey between Porto Torres (Italy) and Toulon (France). The routes with the lowest CO2 emissions are highlighted in green, those optimised for the shortest travel time are marked in red, and the route with the shortest distance appears in blue. The significant wave height field is represented in varying shades of grey with accompanying black arrows, while currents are depicted by purple streamlines.The percentage of CO2 emission reduction for the lowest-CO2 route is calculated concerning the shortest-distance route. This series encompasses outcomes for various engine loads (“chi” parameter).
