The Institut des hautes études scientifiques (IHES) is a French research institute for mathematics and theoretical physics. It offers outstanding scientists a place where they can devote themselves entirely to their research, free from any teaching obligations or administrative tasks, and invites visitors to collaborate. Since its foundation, the institute has developed in line with its founder’s vision: It has indeed become a point of reference within the international scientific community, with undeniable achievements in mathematics and theoretical physics. The atmosphere of free discussion among scientists, regardless of their field of expertise or background, has also become one of its most attractive features.
