Abstract
We discuss a general method for discretizing and simulating numerically thin structures based on the ideas of discrete differential geometry and on variational formulations. The method is successively first applied to elastic rods and viscous jets, and then to active viscous axisymmetric membranes, a model relevant to cytokinesis. We shortly discuss how contact and an enclosed incompressible fluids can be taken into account.
