Abstract
Chironomidae; midge. The reproduction of the intertidal-zone-dweller Clunio begins after its hatching at low tide. Copulation and subsequent laying of eggs end the life of the imago and it dies with the incoming tide. The cycle of the moon determines the time of pupation of the larva; the imago's hatching is regulated by the day-night cycle. The normal life cycle of a population ends after 15 days.
