The shorter wavelengths of the ultraviolet microscope allow for higher resolution and light absorption by proteins and other elements of the cytoplasm, enabling more detailed analysis of the cytoplasm and its organelles. Thin elements of the endoplasmic reticulum (diameter less than 100 nm) and bundles of actin filaments are visible.
