English | English The film depicts locomotion and reproduction of Arcella vulgaris var. multinucleata (Rhizopoda, Testacea), one of the more common species of thecamoebae. The characteristic features of its organisation and behaviour are demonstrated first: the test with its hexagonal pattern; the concentrically stratified protoplast, which is attached to the thecal wall by threads of cytoplasm (epipodia); the activity of contractile vacuoles; pseudopodia of various appearances; and the ingestion of food. The film continues in documenting the formation of a new test prior to cell division, the cell division itself, and the formation and resorption of intracytoplasmic gas vacuoles. Finally, the development of cysts and cyst germination will be shown. |
