Using the ringdove as an example, the characteristic dove reproductive behaviour is shown in its three phases: courtship; incubation; raising of the young. The distinctive features are emphasized: sharing of brooding; the diurnal rhythm of brooding; the feeding of the young with crop or pigeon's milk.
