The film shows the cutting of soft polyvinylchloride (PVC) by means of a cutting apparatus which operates in principle along the lines of a cutter of the type used to cut continuous lengths of material into pieces of substantially uniform size. The stresses and strains occuring in the material during the cut are rendered visible. The principle parameters such as chip thickness, cutting angle, gap between blade and counterblade, and cutting speed which affect the cutting operation, are varied. With slow-motion.
