The film shows the mode of life of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus, a 'predatory bacterium' which feeds on other bacteria. The various stages of the parasite-host-relationship are shown using Spirillum serpens as the bacterial host: the attack on the host bacterium, the attachment to the cell wall, penetration into the inside of the cell, the morphological changes in the host bacterium caused by the infestation, the intracellular propagation and the escape of the parasites from the lysed bacterial cell.
