Ein erhitztes flaches Eisenstück wird auf dem Amboß gebreitet und an der Spitze krumm geschmiedet. Mit einem kleinen Hammer wird das Blatt abgesetzt und die Griffzunge ausgearbeitet. Nach Abkühlen werden auf der Innenseite Zähne ausgefeilt. Heftring und Holzgriff werden angefertigt. Die Griffzunge wird in den Holzgriff gesteckt und der Heftring angebracht. Mit einem Bogenbohrer werden der Heftring und der Griff mit der Griffzange durchbohrt. Dann wird ein Nagel eingeschlagen. Die Arbeiten werden von einem Schmied aus Tarim ausgeführt.

A hot, flat piece of iron is flattened on the anvil to curve one of its points. The blade is marked and a tongue for the shaft is shaped with a small hammer. After the cooling the inner side is indented with a file. In the meantime another man prepares a ring and a piece of wood for the shaft. The tongue is inserted into the shaft and the ring put around to hold the two together. The ring, the tongue and the shaft are bored with a bow-drill and subsequently joined by a nail.
