With the use of selected examples, the film shows the various possible reactions of the cells during the course of a virus infection. The behaviour of the cells after being infected with polio, vesicular stomatitis, herpes simplex, adeno and vaccinia viruses, and the possibility of formation of giant cells due to parainfluenza and ectromelia viruses. Examples of the formation of inclusion bodies are demonstrated on an ectromelia virus infection and examples of the change of the cell nucleus on adeno and herpes virus infection. The last part of the film deals with the release of newly-formed, mature vaccina viruses.
