Abstract

The film shows the deformation of the aluminium alloy AlMgSi 0,5 in torsion. After a homogeneous deformation of about 50 %, the further deformation of the hammered, i. e. strain-hardened specimen concentrates on a small section of the gauge length. The arising zone of heavy strained material grows at its ends until covering the gauge length completely. Further deformation occurs homogeneously again. Unlike this, the solution-treated material shows the Portevin-Le-Chatelier-effect after a homogeneous shear strain of about only 20 %. Immeasurably small deformation fronts move rapidly across the gauge length, their number and speed decreases with increasing deformation.
