Englisch | Englisch The film demonstrates the eclosion and the copulation of the sexually dimorphic midge Clunio marinus. The male emerges autonomously. The apterous female, in the contrary, has to be freed from the exuvie by the male during their mating. At first the male palpates the pupa, until the median suture of the thorax is found. Then, the male puts its hypopygium into the open suture (face-to-back-position of the sexes), and strips off the pupal skin of the female. When the hypopygium clasps the genital segment of the female, both sexes are in a face-to-face-position. During the immediately following copulation the partners come to a long lasting end-to-end-position. |
